Council of the Elders

According to the law “On local self-government in the city of Yerevan”, the Council of Elders is the supreme body of local self-government in Yerevan, which executes control over activities of the mayor. While discharging its duties pursuant to the RA Constitution and law the Council of Elders shall be independent and shall function only for the benefit and in the name of Yerevan. According to the law “On local self-government in the city of Yerevan”, as a result of the elections to the Council of Elders held on May 31 in the capital the Republican Party of Armenia received 35 mandates, the party “Prosperous Armenia” – 17, and the Armenian National Congress – 13.
Pursuant to the law “On local self-government in the city of Yerevan”, 4 commissions of the Council of Elders were formed by decision of the Council of Elders:


  • Standing commission on financial and credit, economic, trade and services, transport and road construction issues,
  • Standing commission on educational, cultural, youth, health care, social security, physical culture and sports issues,
  • Standing commission on urban development, land use and nature protection issues,
  • Standing commission on legal issues.
